Why does my spacebar type two spaces when I press it once?
Usually switch chatter (double-firing): a worn or dirty switch registers one press as two a few milliseconds apart. Use Diagnostic mode and tap normally - rows flagged CHATTER with a gap under about 30ms and a very short hold point to a bouncing switch rather than fast typing.
How do I test my spacebar for chatter or double-spacing?
Switch to Diagnostic mode and press the spacebar at a normal pace. The tool pairs each key-down with its key-up and flags any press whose gap from the previous one is below the chosen threshold (default 80ms) and whose hold is unusually short as suspected chatter, logging every press.
How do I know if my spacebar is missing presses?
Use Registration mode: pick a target like 20 and press the spacebar exactly that many times. The tool reports how many presses actually registered versus your target. If it registers fewer, the spacebar is dropping presses - the only reliable way to catch an intermittent or dead key.
What is a good spacebar speed?
Around 5-8 presses per second is average, 8-12 is fast, and 12-15 reaches competitive gamers and fast typists. Sustaining 15+ per second for 10 seconds or more is elite. Speed mode counts only real presses and ignores held-key auto-repeat, so the score stays accurate.
Does this spacebar test send my keystrokes anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser with JavaScript - your presses, timings, the log, and the CSV export are computed locally and never leave your device. There is no server, account, or tracking, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
